EthCo - Make a difference

EthCo

Resources for EthCo
EthCo sets out to provide a task-based framework to allow young people to explore the concept of ethics in business and to contextualise that within Scotland’s place in the world economy. The UN’s Millennium Development Goals impact on world poverty and growth, and a key function of EthCo is to promote those Goals.

Interdisciplinary Notes

These notes on organising an interdisciplinary task in schools are based on the experiences of staff in several schools who were involved in pilot studies.  The one issue emphasised by all staff was planning.

Interdisciplinary tasks were at their best when all staff involved clearly knew what to do and when to do it, and how their input would affect the outcomes for the pupils.

Schools will of course adopt best practice  which matches their own needs, however these notes are offered as a basis for discussion when implementing the EthCo interdisciplinary tasks.

Ethics

The EthCo tasks, with their basis in the MDGs, clearly have ethical issues at their core. The study of Ethics is a subject in itself and has implications for the development of our pupils in the four capacities of a Curriculum for Excellence. These notes are simply a starter and it is hoped that as teachers and pupils work through the EthCo tasks, they will be able to contribute much more to the ethical debate.

The EthCo Song

A challenge was put out to schools to compose and perform a song for EthCo. There were many superb entries from both primary and secondary schools and the judges had a very difficult task. You can listen to and download the songs here.
