EthCo - Make a difference

EthCo

The recent EthCo conference on the 26th March was very well attended with delegates from most parts of Scotland responding well to the EthCo experience.  The welcome and introductionwas given by Linda Brownlow, who then handed over to John Dornan from DECS who took the delegates through a workshop on the Millennium Development Goals and world progress in meeting them.

This was followed by Mick Jackson from Wildhearts gave an inspirational presentation on ethics in business and on the impact of micro finance in the developing world.

Jim Mullan then spoke on his experiences of the ethical approach in education as found at Kibble school, before Janice McGoldrick led a workshop on 'how can pupils make a difference'.

The Oban High School singers performed their EthCo song to the applause of the crowd, and were themselves delighted to give the pupil view on EthCo.

Bill Geddes and Peter Eavers gave the HMIE perspective on interdisciplinary learning.

Lunchtime saw an excellent showcase of EthCo related resources as well as the first class lunch , then in the afternoon, delegates spent time with Dave Whitelaw and Ian McMillan looking at the EthCo tasks and how they could be used in schools.

Linda then made the closing remarks and thanked the delegates for their enthusiastic response. Evaluations were very positive and delegates indicated that EthCo was indeed fulfilling a need.
