14. The Digital Age and the MDGs

The content of this task can be adapted to suit any Curriculum for Excellence Level.

The concepts of the “Digital Age” and “Information Communication Technology for all” are not new, but there are still huge inequalities in the provision of ICT in Scotland and in developing countries. Pupils will work in small groups and investigate the concept of “ICT for all” and will discover whether or not it is a feasible concept, and the efforts being made to achieve it. Pupils will investigate existing and new technologies, and use their new-found knowledge to suggest an alternative technology which they think will help accelerate the provision of ICT to all. Particular attention will be paid to the Millennium Development Goals and their aims. The demonstration of learning will take the form of an ICT festival, with informative leaflets and displays created by the pupils, and where “stall holders” will explain their particular technology to interested parties.
