5. Supporting the MDGs through Sport
The content of this task can be adapted to suit any Curriculum for Excellence Level.
The Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships, World Cup football and World Cup rugby are well known examples of international sporting events and there are many more in all sports. But what goes on behind the scenes to enact these events? What contribution does sport make in achieving the MDGs and world understanding?
Pupils will organise an “international sporting event” with “teams from around the World”. There will be an opening ceremony, suitable events, for all ages concerned, and a prize-giving and closing ceremony.
